48 hours of make up – with a bit of sleep in between!

3 Jul

To say I wasn’t nervous as I drove off to my first job on Saturday morning would be a lie.  What lay ahead of me for the whole weekend was three jobs that meant a lot to me.  I’ve heard that even one of the best make up artists in the world, Pat McGrath, gets nervous before a job.  Being creative means putting yourself out there to be judged, critiqued, compared…..  I think this is where the nerves come from.

My first job was working with a photographer I adore working with.  I am so fortunate to work with Pomegranate quite regularly and I love every job that I do with them.  This job was personal!  We were shooting an entry for the Sydney Morning Herald “Shoot the Chef” competition.  Obviously, I can’t go into details until the finalists are chosen but it is a great concept and my fingers are well and truly crossed that we get to all go to Paris at the end of the year!  The shot looks amazing and I think it has winner written all over it!

After finishing and packing up from that shoot I raced across town for another job that was incredibly important to me on a personal level.  I was shooting for another competition, this time it was the International Spa and Beauty Expo Make Up Awards.  The category is Photographic Editorial.  Now this one I have been thinking about non stop for weeks.  I’ve purchased so much make up, clothes, hair stuff….this list goes on.  Today was the day!  phew. Again…can’t show any photo’s until the competition is over.

Home for sleep and to prepare for Sunday.  This job was different to anything else I had ever done.  I was assisting the ever amazing Becca Gilmartin on a body art job.  I have never even touched body paints before and this was an amazing concept.  I was so excited to be a part of it.  Our call time was 8.00am and Becca and I body painted almost non stop till 11.00 that night.  I was exhausted but exhilerated at the same time.  The shot is going to be like nothing ever done before.  Again……no photo’s.  But, all will be revealed soon.
